Five Things Friday: May Activities and More

Copy of Five Things Friday!

Isn’t May one of the most beautiful months of the year? I can’t get over it. Every time I go outside to jog or walk on the nature trails, there’s always something new to see. This week I noticed that the flat river is a little higher, lily of the valley is everywhere, and the mosquitoes are out and eager to bite me.

Here’s a few more ways in which May is awesome.

May Activities and More

1. Mother’s Day

I have an inspiring mother and mother-in-law to look up to. My mother quilts, sews, gardens and teaches science. My mother-in-law has been a nurse for over 40 years! My older sister is Wonder Woman (true story, more on that in a later post) and home schools her four children. My best friends sister actually just became a mother today! I myself am a cat mom and happy just the way that is. Moms are great and they deserve to be celebrated.

2. Picking Flowers

This blog really is geared more towards women, isn’t it? That wasn’t intentional, but I’ve taken notice recently with all the girly flowery posts. My apologies. The truth is, us girls typically like flowers. Take note and buy us some every once and a while. I like to bring home wild flowers during the summer to make the house look nice. So far I’ve been lucky not to get into any poison ivy. Above you’ll see some lily of the valley I plucked earlier this week.

3. Nature Sounds

One day I will probably pick up the hobby of bird watching. I already try to identify the birds I see and hear. One of my favorites is the mocking bird. We don’t have them in Michigan. When I was in Arizona a couple of years ago I heard mocking birds a lot where we were staying. I started imitating car alarm noises and got the birds all riled up into a cacophony of chaotic nonsense. It was hilarious! I laughed so hard that I cried.

4. May the 4th Be With You

Today marks 41 years since the movie premiere of Star Wars: A New Hope. It’s a common saying among Jedi and geeks alike to wish someone “May the Force be with you.” Hence, May fourth has been known as Star Wars Day. The month of May is also when a lot of Star Wars movies have been released. Solo: a Star Wars Story just came out and I saw it last night. It’s a can’t miss movie!

5. First BBQ of the Season

Ah, meat tastes so much better when it’s grilled outside. Men, this is to make up for the girly-girl stuff. Many of you will be firing up the grill for Memorial Day this weekend. Here’s to you, carnivores! That’s the way to celebrate spring and usher in summer.

Have a safe Memorial Day weekend!
