5 Things Friday

Summer doesn’t officially start for a week and a half, but when the temperature is averaging around eighty degrees, it’s summer in my book. Plus, the local library kicks off the summer reading program tomorrow and I’ll be there. I just picked up The O’Malley series by Dee Henderson and you can be sure I’m having a hard time putting it down!

Here are my favorite things of the week:

1. Cheesecake

Soft, creamy, and oh so delicious!

2. Wet Hair

In the winter I have to blow dry my hair right after a shower. In the summer, it’s nice and warm enough to let my hair slowly air dry. Girls, you know the feeling.

3. Big Sunglasses

Big sunglasses are a ton of fun! Since I already wear glasses for general sight reasons, and I don’t have transitions, it’s hard to find sunglasses that fit over my regular ones.

Funny story: One time I was riding my bike down Saginaw Hwy in Lansing. I was being safe, riding on the sidewalk, and keeping an eye on traffic. Out of nowhere a small speck of something flew into my eye. About ten minutes later I was home, in the bathroom, crying from the pain. I couldn’t see what was in my eye, but I had tried everything to get it out. Half an hour later, after a few phone calls and panicked begging, an eye doctor agreed to see me at closing. He had to numb my eye to pull out the piece of metal from my pupil. Now I’m a big fan of sports sunglasses that have special frames that keep your eyes safe.

4. Afternoon Naps

Come 3pm I find myself dragging. Unemployment leaves far too much time for long, luxurious naps. I have no regrets about the afternoon hours I have spent in blissful sleep.

5. Beach Sounds

If I can’t be at the beach during summer, then I try to bring the beach to me. Now, I’m a Michigander, so when I think beach, it’s fresh water and rocks, not salt water and sea shells. My favorite sound app is Relax M. It has so many great sounds, so if I’m not feeling the wave sounds I switch to rain or a crackling fireplace.

Have a great weekend! I’m going to read while I wait for an evening thunderstorm to roll in.
