How fun is it to have a color designated for an entire year? Forget the black and white rules and the polka dots and stripes.
2016 is the year of Rose Quartz and Serenity
My first thoughts were that these resemble baby blanket colors for newborn girls and boys. They’re so soft and relaxing. When I look around my home, I don’t see these colors anywhere. Have I taken these colors for granted, or have I just been presented with a challenge to actively use them?
I love a creative challenge.
Ever since we moved in I’ve wanted to make some sort of wall decor for the bedroom. It’s a strictly “geek free” zone, so all of the Star Wars, Mario, Harry Potter type posters are in other rooms. I want something calming, art that won’t make the mind wide awake.
There have been many cute quotes, pictures of birds and trees that I thought would be nice. I would buy one, but I wanted to create it from scratch.
- Painting a wall was out of the question
- Painting a portrait would also stretch my creative ability
- Drawing would take me forever
- I wasn’t going to print out an image from the computer
That’s when I decided to use what I had and what I was good at.
Scrapbooking paper and Sharpies!
These two blue and pink pieces were as close to Rose Quartz and Serenity as I could find. I drew a SPLAT pattern, cut it out and taped (I’m out of glue) it together. From there I added blue and purple dots around the splat, then the stars at the top. If you look closely inside the pink, there are lots of yellow Zzz’s, I outlined some in the bottom right.
The finishing touch was simple and the scrapbook art resembles things that relate to sleep.
Who knows what else I might want to do with this years colors.
